Nigeria - June 2011; Educational Advancement Center (EAC) in partnership with University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre provided the most effective preparation for JAMB UTME, using the Mobile Phone! Packaged by Experienced Tutors and Experts in a partnership between the University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre and Educational Advancement Centre to guarantee Outstanding Results in the JAMB UTME Results.

EAC is using AD-CONNECT Platform to deliver this service in Nigeria.

Every Jambites who subscribed for this service had the features outlined below:

The Mobile phone was adopted as the major media of the learning platform for the following reasons over the common Online or Traditional Education.

• Cost of Equipment:the Mobile Phone is relatively cheaper than the Computer on the average. Although there are some expensive phones which cost as much as Desktops and lower specification Laptops/Notebooks, majority of phones cost a fraction of Computer costs.


• Availability – many people, including students already have mobile phones. In Nigeria for example, it is claimed that there are over 60 million Mobile phone users.


• Cheaper Maintenance: In an environment of poor maintenance culture, Mobile phones are less prone to malfunctioning when compared to Computers. The Mobile phone is much better than the Computer in terms of average cost of maintenance per annum and average effective life span.


• Low Power Requirement: In an environment of inadequate and erratic Power (Electricity) supply, the Mobile phones is much better than the Computer; Desktop or Laptop. The Mobile phone requires a small fraction of the power requirement of Computers and have power storing batteries that tend to store power for a longer period, when compared to Laptops
• 3 G Internet availability on GSM Networks is better distributed through the Country in comparison to the poor quality and expensive Internet available for Computers.


• Mobility of Mobile phones is a tremendous advantage in settings where there are traffic hold-ups and commuting. The wasted times can be utilised to advantage with the use of Mobile phones.

In addition to these inherent advantages of the Mobile Phone over the Computer or Online Studies are the possibilities available to the Education providers on the use of ICT in Learning. The modern Mobile Phone is a Computer in her own right with vast capabilities.

• Automating the assessment of students and learners leading to less work-load on Teachers and leading to more effective learning. Assessment is a well recognised tool to improve learning but is not maximised by the Teacher due to the demands it places on time for marking scripts, recording, analysing and reporting by the Teacher.


• Feedback to Parents. The positive role that the collaboration between Teachers and Parents can play in the Learning process has been well proven. The Mobile Learning Platform allows the Parent to be involved in motivating and monitoring the study habits and performance of the child. The old adage of being able to force a horse to the river, but not being able to force it to drink which was applicable in Traditional Learning systems is debunked in a system in which the Parent can monitor the performance and time utilisation of the child.


• Use of attractive Audio and Visual materials like Pictures, Video to enrich the learning process is easy on the Mobile phones which were designed for these multimedia materials in the first place. Cameras / Videos on phones are common these days and have tremendous impact on the appeal of materials to the young learner.


• The reduction in Paper material being used in Learning, thus preserving the Forests of the world (the small phone can contain hundreds of thousands of pages of books, and written materials). It is a Green technology.


• Gaming has become a perversion of the upcoming generation but can be used to advantage by the introduction of Learning Games on the Mobile phones
