THEME
HARNESSING MOBILE TECHNOLOGY FOR TERTIARY EDUCATION:
Using M-Learning Platform to provide ubiquitous teaching & learning
Mobile learning is considered an evolution of e-learning that embraces the ubiquitous nature of current Computational systems in order to improve teaching and learning, within this context it is possible to develop mobile applications oriented to learning. With the new “anytime, anywhere computing” paradigm (ubiquitous computing), a shift from “electronic” to “mobile” services has begun. Thus, just as e-commerce has extended to m-commerce, so e-learning now includes m-learning (mobile-learning). In the field of teaching and learning, the expected benefits of this new mobility include, among others, more efficient instruction together with an improvement in learning outcomes. The purpose of this workshop is to bring together various stakeholders to discuss the use of mobile technology for education delivery in Ghana. The workshop seeks to provide a better understanding of m-learning so as to encourage it use and acceptance by institutions to facilitate teaching and learning. Participants will have a practical experience of m-learning using the AD-CONNECT Mobile Learning Platform.
The significance of the workshop is to contribute to national discussions on the use of various ICTs in education in Ghana and to demonstrate m-learning. This workshop is largely inspired by the way mobile devices are becoming smaller with stronger functionalities and more popular for learning among young adults. The expected outcome of the workshop include creating awareness on the possibility of using mobile education in Ghana and also participants will be well informed on how to leverage on different kinds of educational technologies to facilitate teaching and learning.
